Value Engineer Items
FT Woods Contract
Police Facility Project
VE Item#9 Lighting Package
FT Woods Construction had proposed saving up to $46,066.00 for alternate lighting
package during value engineering of the original contract. The MEP reviewed the
submittals for the alternate lighting package and only a small portion of the package were
acceptable and would be cost efficient for the city. $11,000 savings were identified and
the balance of the lighting package in the amount of$35,066 is being added back into the
project.
VE Item#7 Carpet
FT Woods Construction during the original value engineering discussionsropos
changing the carpet brand and possibly saving$39,018 in the overallproject. Upon
review of submittals and carpet samples the carpet substitution was disapproved of by the
architect and police representative. It did not meet the performance specs needed for this
project. The original carpet that was specified and bid will be installed and there will not
be savings in these costs.
DATE: December 13, 2007
SUBJECT: City Council Meeting - December 20, 2007
ITEM: 9F3. Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Construction
Change Order No. 8 with FT Woods Construction for the Round Rock
Police Facility.
Department: Engineering and Development Services
Staff Person: Tom Word, Chief of Public Works
Larry Madsen, Construction Manager
Justification:
This change order includes an addition of $36,985.16 for revisions to site utility work from
original plans. This change order deals with requests from the city inspector for corrections
and improvements that had to be made on the water and fire line. Two additional fire
hydrants were added to provide fire protection for the facility.
This change request also adds cost of two items that were valued engineered from the
project at original contract time back into the project cost. Once construction started and
submittals of an alternate carpet package were reviewed it became evident that this was
not the best buy for the city and the original specified carpet is being put back into the
project. An alternate lighting package was reviewed by construction team and the alternate
lighting package was changed to meet the police department needs. These items were
reviewed and the total value engineered savings was reduced and the difference added back
into the project as listed below.
Original Savings Actual Savings Net Cost
VE#7 Alternative Carpet Selection $39,018.00 $0 $39,018.00
