SARA WHITE, City Secretary

DATE: February 28, 2008
SUBJECT: City Council Meeting - March 6, 2008
ITEM: *8C1. Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 3, Section 3.105 of the
Round Rock Code of Ordinances regarding construction permit and
inspection fees. (Second Reading)
Department: Fire
Staff Person: William Wusterhausen, Fire Marshal
Justification:
Staff recommends the amendment of Section 3.105 of the Code of Ordinances regarding
fees. This ordinance will require fees to be paid for services provided by the Fire Marshal's
office in regards to new construction.
Funding:
Cost: N/A
Source of funds: N/A
Outside Resources: N/A
Background Information:
As a result of the public input from the 10 year plan, the public requested that services be
paid for by those receiving the service. The Fire Marshal's office currently performs plan
reviews, new construction inspections, and annual inspections for businesses requiring State
License in the City. All these activities performed by the Fire Marshal's Office are required
fire and life safety inspections, which are currently being paid for as part of the annual
operating costs. As the City continues to grow and more construction occurs, the adoption
of these fees will help keep operating expenses down so that the tax rates stay low for
residents.
Staff recommends the adoption of these fees to recover the costs involved with these
activities. These fees are comparable to other cities who currently charge these fees
throughout the State and locally.
