Consider an ordinance prohibiting through commercial trucks on Red Bud Lane from Gattis School Road to US 79. (Second Reading) Department: Transportation Services Staff Person: Thomas G. Martin, P.E., Director of Transportation Services Justification: In order to reduce the congestion caused by through commercial trucks on Red Bud Lane (CR 122) from Gattis School Road to US 79, including aggregate haulers and other construction related vehicles, prohibition of such trucks will promote safety on the roadways and reduce delays. Funding• Cost: 0.00 Source of funds: N/A Outside Resources: N/A Background Information• Red Bud Lane (CR 122) is currently a 3 lane wide section, consisting of one northbound and one southbound lane as well as a continuous left turn lane. This portion of Red Bud Lane (CR 122) runs adjacent to predominantly residential neighborhoods. In its current configuration it is considered a minor arterial, providing the essential access to adjacent subdivisions. With the completion of A.W. Grimes a six lane divided arterial between SH 45 and US 79, a much better route for north south traffic in this part of the city is available, with few residential subdivisions abutting the road. Previously, at the April 28, 2005 City Council meeting (G-05-04-28-9A1), during construction on Red Bud Lane to widen it to three lanes, an ordinance was approved prohibiting thru commercial trucks on this portion of Red Bud Lane. However, this prohibition was limited to the term of the construction project. Public Comment: N/A
