AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES (1995
EDITION), CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, CHAPTER 1,
SECTION 1.002.1(4)(b) RELATING TO CIVIL SERVICE
CLASSIFICATIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR A SAVINGS CLAUSE;
AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES AND
RESOLUTIONS.
WHEREAS, the City of Round Rock has previously adopted
Chapter 143 , Texas Local Government Code, dealing with Municipal
Civil Service for firefighters; and
WHEREAS, Texas Local Government Code Section 143 . 021 (a)
requires that the City' s governing body establish the
classifications of all firefighters and prescribe the numbers of
positions in each classification; and
WHEREAS, certain civil service classifications and numbers
of positions thereunder have changed: Now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND
ROCK, TEXAS, THAT:
I.
The Code of Ordinances of the City of Round Rock, Texas, is
hereby amended by amending Chapter 1, Section 1 . 1002 . 1 (4) as
follows :
1.1002.1(4) Firefighters Civil Service Classifications and Numbers of Positions
(a) Chapter 143, Texas Local Government Code, dealing with Municipal Civil
Service for firefighters, was implemented effective October 30, 2001. Section
143.021(a) thereof requires that the City's governing body establish the
classifications of all firefighters and prescribe the numbers of positions in each
classification.
(b) The following civil service classifications are hereby established, and the
following numbers of positions in each classification are hereby prescribed:

II.
A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances or resolutions in
conflict herewith are expressly repealed.
B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this
ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions
thereof .
C. The City Council hereby finds and declares that
written notice of the date, hour place and subject of the
meeting at which this Ordinance was adopted was posted and that
such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all
times during which this Ordinance and the subject matter hereof
were discussed, considered and formally acted upon, all as
required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government
Code, as amended.
Alternative 1 .
By motion duly made, seconded and passed with an
affirmative vote of all the Council members present, the
requirement for reading this ordinance on two separate days was
dispensed with.

ITEM: 10B1. Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 1, Section 1.1002.1(4)(b) of
the Round Rock Code of Ordinances regarding firefighter civil service
classifications and number of positions. (First Reading)

Justification:
This ordinance will update the prescribed number of sworn positions in each classification
effective with the approved changes in authorized positions. Twelve (12) new firefighter
positions have been approved in the FY 07/08 General Fund budget for staffing of Station 7.
In addition; one (1) Battalion Chief's position has been temporarily removed, one (1)
Captain's position for emergency has been removed, and (1) Captain's position for
Emergency Medical Services has been added, one (1) Lieutenant's position has been added
in Prevention, and two (2) driver's positions in Suppression.
Funding:
Cost: Funding has been approved in the FY 07/08 budget.
Source of funds: General Fund

Background Information:
