R-04-08-12-13A1 WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department has requested that the following streets be closed on August 21, 2004 from 7 :45 a.m. to 10 : 00 a.m. for the 115K for Clay" fun run/walk: the northernmost westbound lane of Gattis School Road from A.W. Grimes Boulevard to Greenlawn Boulevard; the easternmost northbound lane of Greenlawn Boulevard from Gattis School Road to Greenslopes II Park; and the westernmost southbound lane of A.W. Grimes Boulevard from its bridge crossing Lake Creek to Gattis School Road, and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to grant said request, Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, That the streets be closed as set forth above. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, as amended. Consider a resolution authorizing the closing of streets on August 21, 2004 for the "5K for Clay" fun run/walk. Department: Police Department Staff Person: Bryan Williams, Police Chief Justification: This road closure would all the City Parks and Recreation Department, through the Clay Madsen Recreation Center, to conduct its inaugural "5k for Clay" benefit fun run/walk. This is a Clay Madsen Recreation Center Advisory Board project. The benefit is being conducted in honor of Clay Madsen. The goal of the event is to reinforce the idea that the Madsen Rec Center is a safe place for children and adults to learn the leadership and sportsmanship qualities that Clay Madsen held throughout his life. The Center is a 55,000 square foot facility that houses two full size gymnasiums, a six lane, 25 yard lap pool, four racquetball courts, a cardio/weight room, an aerobics/dance room, meeting rooms, game room, and a full kitchen. Any profits from the event will be used to purchase gym equipment. Clay Madsen was born in Georgetown, grew up in Round Rock, and attended Round Rock High School. He excelled in varsity football and baseball, as well as academically. He was a Christian role model who lost a two-year bout with cancer.
