WHITE, City Secretary 0:\WDOX\RESOLUTI\R80925E1.DOC/rmc DATE: September 17, 2008 SUBJECT: City Council Meeting—September 25, 2008 ITEM: 14E1. Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a construction contract with N.G. Painting for the 2008 — 2010 Tank Rehabilitation Project. Department: Staff Person: Justification: Water and Wastewater Utilities Michael Thane, P.E., Director of Utilities This contract will include all the necessary construction for the rehabilitation of two City tanks and is planned to occur between October 2008 and April 2009. The two tanks are the Southeast Elevated Tank (interior only — exterior had an overcoat in 2000) and the Southeast Ground Storage Tank (interior and exterior). Funding: Cost: $561,300.00 Source of funds: Capital Project Funds (Self Financed Utility) Outside Resources: HOT Inspection Services Background Information: The state requires annual inspections of all water storage tanks within our distribution system. The inspection results will provide the City with the information necessary to schedule any repairs and painting for each tank. In general, steel tanks need re -painting every 10 to 15 years. Subsequent to project completion, all of the City's tanks, excluding the 1431 Standpipe, will be complete for this cycle of tank rehabilitation. The costs for tank rehabilitation have noticeably increased over the past year due to changes in paint specifications and increases in the price of fuel. Public Comment: N/A
