G-09-02-12-9A1 - 2/12/2009ORDINANCE NO. - � U9' UZ -q Z— 9k1 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES (1995 EDITION), CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, CHAPTER 9, SECTION 9.503 AMENDING A SCHOOL SPEED ZONE ON GATTIS SCHOOL ROAD; AND PROVIDING FOR A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES OR RESOLUTIONS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS: I. That the school zone on Gattis School Road designated in Chapter 9, Section 9.503, Code of Ordinances (1995 Edition), City of Round Rock is hereby amended to read as follows: 9.503 SCHOOL ZONES STREET FROM TO SPEED ZONE SPEED ZONE TIMES Gattis School Road 400' west of Via Sonoma Trail 500' east of Bradford Park Drive 30 7:00-8:45 am 2:30-4:30 pm II. A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances, or resolutions in conflict herewith are expressly repealed. B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof. C. Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 9, Section 9.503, Round Rock Code of Ordinances, amending a school speed zone on Gattis School Road. (Second Reading) Department: Staff Person: Justification: Transportation Services Tom Martin, P.E., Director of Transportation Services The Transportation Services Department is seeking to amend the school zone speed limit on Gattis School Road from 400' west of Via Sonoma Trail to 500' east of Bradford Park Drive. This request will implement a school speed zone of 30 MPH during the hours of 7:00-8:45 a.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m. on school days. Funding: Cost: N/A Source of funds: N/A Outside Resources: N/A Background Information: An engineering and traffic study was conducted on Gattis School Road indicating the need to reduce the speed from 45 miles per hour to 30 mile per hour during school traffic hours. The existing school zone speed limit of 20 MPH was adopted by the City Council under Ordinance G- 03 -08 -14 -El. This speed limit was inappropriate in that the reduction from the posted speed limit (45 MPH) was greater than the 15 MPH reduction allowed in the Texas Manual on Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) Public Comment: N/A
