Tom Martin, P.E., Director of Transportation Services
The Transportation Services Department is seeking to amend the school zone speed limit on

request will implement a school speed zone of 30 MPH during the hours of 7:00-8:45 a.m. and

Background Information:
An engineering and traffic study was conducted on Gattis School Road indicating the need to
reduce the speed from 45 miles per hour to 30 mile per hour during school traffic hours. The
existing school zone speed limit of 20 MPH was adopted by the City Council under Ordinance G-
03 -08 -14 -El. This speed limit was inappropriate in that the reduction from the posted speed
limit (45 MPH) was greater than the 15 MPH reduction allowed in the Texas Manual on Traffic
Control Devices (TMUTCD)
