City of Round Rock, Texas
DATE: February 4, 2009
SUBJECT: City Council Meeting— February 12, 2009
ITEM: 10C2. Consider a resolution authorizing the City Council to name the proposed
westside recreation center, Legacy Fieldhouse.
Department: Parks and Recreation
Staff Person: Rick Atkins, Director of Parks and Recreation
David Buzzell
Justification:
Staff would like to formally name the proposed westside recreation center
Legacy Fieldhouse in honor of numerous members of the Round Rock community who have
made a significant impact on our community.
Funding:
Cost: $ 8,043,500.00
Source of funds: 2001 General Obligation Bonds
Outside Resources: Pfluger, Wiginton, Hooker Architects
Background Information:
Staff has been approached by numerous members of the community that would like the facility
named after their loved one and staff feels that Legacy Fieldhouse will honor all these citizens
instead of trying to figure out which person was more deserving of the naming. Within the
facility, we will designate locations that will honor and memorialize each person.
Public Comment:
Numerous meetings/discussions have been held with the family members of the loved ones to
discuss the naming of the facility to Legacy Fieldhouse. All parties feel that Legacy Fieldhouse
would be a good name that would honor all the community members.
