SUBJECT: City Council Meeting - September 11, 2003
ITEM: 10.C.1. Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a
Purchase Order to IES Interactive Training for the purchase of an
interactive firearms training system.
Resource: Paul Conner, Police Chief
Chris Bratton, Captain
History:
Proposed is the purchase of an interactive training simulator for police
firearms and use of force training. This multimedia system provides
interactive video and computer-based simulations under the trainer's
control. Officers respond to use -of -force scenarios as they normally
would; when a weapon is used, it is computer-linked version of an
officer's duty weapon and tracks accuracy without any actual bullets
being used. The police trainer controls the outcome of training
scenarios based on officer actions. The purchase is partially funded by
the 2002 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant and fully completes that
grant program. The purchase is being made through the State Catalog
Information Services Vendor program
Funding:
Cost: $63,159.00
Source of Funds: The purchase is funded partially from a Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant ($21,419.00) with the
remainder of the cost funded from a self -finance account
from FY 2001-02.
Outside Resources: N/A
Impact/Benefit: Approval will allow the Police Department to purchase
the training system.
