DATE: June 5, 2009
SUBJECT: City Council Meeting — June 11, 2009
ITEM: 10C1. Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a Purchase Order to
Musco Lighting for sports lighting for the OId Settlers at Palm Valley
Multipurpose Practice Field Development Project.
Department: Parks & Recreation Department
Staff Person: Rick Atkins, Parks and Recreation Director
David Buzzell, RLA, ASLA
Justification:
This resolution will allow the City to purchase sports lighting for the multipurpose practice field at OId
Settlers Park. A lighted, multipurpose practice field is needed in order to maintain the high quality of
game fields at Old Settlers Park. Overuse of the game quality fields will cause an increased maintenance
level and funding to repair the fields. The addition of the multipurpose practice fields to minimize the
use of game fields for practice will allow the City to better protect the investment made at the sports
complexes at Old Settlers Park. In addition, it will provide the citizens with some much needed
recreation quality fields for pick-up games and everyday use.
Funding:
Cost: $198,755.00
Source of funds: General Self Finance Construction
Outside Resources:
Musco Lighting
Background Information:
As part of the OSPV Sports Complex Improvements Project process, the City determined that in order to
maintain the high quality of fields at Old Settlers Park, local league practices must occur on fields other
than the game fields to prevent the fields from being over -used.
Public Comment:
Numerous meetings and presentations with the Round Rock sports leagues.
