R -09-10-22-11E3 WHEREAS, the City of Round Rock has duly advertised for bids for the Water Treatment Plant General Rehabilitation Project, and WHEREAS, Excel Construction, LLC has submitted the lowest responsible bid, and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept the bid of Excel Construction, LLC, Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, That the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute on behalf of the City a contract with Excel Construction, LLC for the Water Treatment Plant General Rehabilitation Project. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, as amended. Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Construction Contract with Excel Construction, LLC for the Water Treatment Plant General Rehabilitation Project. Department: Staff Person: Justification: Water/Wastewater Utilities Michael Thane, Director of Utilities This contract is for the construction associated with general rehabilitation work at the City's Water Treatment Plant. The work under this contract consists of sedimentation basin improvements; wash - down station upgrades; belt filter press rehabilitation; up -grade to the high service pump station (HSPS) 1-6 structure and to the HSPS electrical building; structural improvements to standby generator control station; trailer -mounted compressed air burst system improvements; and general miscellaneous site improvements at the plant. On October 2, 2009, six bids were received and publicly opened. The bid amounts ranged from $2,787,490 to 3,355,615. The low bidder was Excel Construction Services, Inc. The Design Engineer and the City's Utility staff recommend awarding the project to Excel Construction Services, Inc. Funding: Cost: $2,787,490 Source of funds: Self -Financed Water Construction Outside Resources: Camp, Dresser, & McKee, Inc. Excel Construction Services, Inc. Background Information: This rehabilitation and upgrade work at the City's Water Treatment Plant are necessary to maintain a high-quality water treatment facility and to keep the plant operating as efficiently as possible for many years to come.
