R -09-10-22-11F1 WHEREAS, the City of Round Rock has a history and tradition of fostering economic development for its citizens through support of business and industry; and WHEREAS, companies in the life and bio science industries provide the quality and quantity of jobs and capital investment sought by the City; and WHEREAS, the companies in the life and bio science industries work collaboratively with companies and institutions in the health science industries and with Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas State University, and Austin Community College; and WHEREAS, the recent investment of capital and people in the City by health science institutions and institutions of higher learning has led this Council to conclude that the City should engage in activities and programs and provide support to a convergent technology center to foster and aid in the collaboration among the private companies and public institutions that have located and in the future will locate in Round Rock; Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, That the City of Round Rock supports the establishment of a convergent technology center. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered O:\wdox\SCClnts\0112\0905\MUNICIPAL\R91022F1.DOC and formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, as amended. Department: Staff Person: Justification: Administration Jim Nuse, City Manager In order to further the goal of Economic Diversity and Strategic Partnerships, the Council is being asked to pass a resolution of support for a convergent technologies center. This facility will combine the education, heath care, private sector and public sector interests to create jobs and bring wealth into Round Rock.
