Ci Council A:enda Summary Sheet Agenda Caption: Consider a resolution responding to the petition filed by the Round Rock Police Association requesting recognition as the sole and exclusive bargaining agent for all the police officers employed by the City of Round Rock. Meeting Date: July 8, 2010 Department: Administration Staff Person making presentation: Jim Nuse City Manager Item Summary: The Round Rock Police Association filed their petition with the City on June 9, 2010. This resolution is to respond to the petition as required in Chapter 143.053 of the Local Government Code. Two resolutions are being presented to the Council. One grants recognition to the Round Rock Police Association and authorizes the City Manager to meet and confer and the alternate resolution defers recognition and orders an election of the voters of the City pursuant to §142.053(2) and §142.055 of the Texas Government Code and such election to be held as part of the next regularly scheduled general election on May 7, 2011. R -10-07-08-9A1 WHEREAS, pursuant to §142.053 of the Texas Local Government Code, on June 9, 2010, the Round Rock Police Association filed a petition signed by the majority of all police officers employed by the City; and WHEREAS, such petition requests that the Round Rock Police Association be recognized as the sole and exclusive bargaining agent for all of the police officers employed by the City,; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to grant such petition; Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, The City Council hereby recognizes the Round Rock Police Association as the sole and exclusive bargaining agent for all police officers employed by the City, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT The City Manager and/or his designees may meet and confer with the Round Rock Police Association as provided by Chapter 142, Subchapter B of the Texas Local Government Code. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, as amended.
