R-10-09-23-10D2 - 9/23/2010RESOLUTION NO. R -10-09-23-10D2 WHEREAS, South University is considering locating a branch university in the City of Round Rock at 1100 W. Louis Henna Blvd., Bldg 1, Suites 100 & 200, and WHEREAS, South University will bring approximately 63 jobs and considerable tax base to the City, and WHEREAS, as an incentive for South University to locate its branch university in the City, the City Council hereby determines that it is in the best interest of the City to waive certain development fees, and WHEREAS, the City Council also determines that such waiver of fees will result in substantial economic benefit to the City, Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, That the following fees for South University shall be waived: a) the building permit fee for tenant finish -out, and b) the fire inspection fee. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, as amended. Agenda Caption: Consider a resolution waiving certain building permit fees for South University. Meeting Date: September 23, 2010 Department: Administration Staff Person making presentation: Cindy Demers Assistant City Manager Item Summary: South Education — Texas LLC has identified Frontera Vista in Round Rock as the future site of a new South University campus. South University offers a wide range of educational programs in Arts & Sciences, Business, Health Professions, Nursing, and Pharmacy. There are currently eight South University campuses in the US and the Round Rock campus will be the first Texas campus for this system. In exchange for being the first tenant in these Class A buildings and creating approximately 63 new jobs, the City is prepared to offer a building permit fee waiver for all tenant finish out. Estimated value of this fee waiver is $2,415. In addition, the City has offered the equivalent of a tax abatement on the verified new investment South University will make. This will be forthcoming in a separate agreement.
