Consider a resolution approving an Election Cancellation Order for the City of Round Rock Agenda Caption: General Election on May 14, 2011. Meeting Date: March 24, 2011 Section 2.053 of the Texas Election Code provides that if each candidate running in the election is unopposed and the City Secretary, who is responsible for having the official ballot for City Council elections prepared, has certified in writing that each candidate office in the election is unopposed, then the governing body may cancel the election. This will save the City approximately $40,000 which would have been the approximate cost of holding the election. Once the election is canceled, the newly elected officials will be sworn in at the end of May in accordance with the proper timing set out by the Texas Election Code.
