AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, CODE
OF ORDINANCES (2010 EDITION), CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS,
REGARDING CIVIL SERVICE RECLASSIFICATION; AND PROVIDING
FOR A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING
ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS.
WHEREAS, the City of Round Rock has previously adopted Chapter 143, Texas
Local Government Code, dealing with Municipal Civil Service for firefighters; and
WHEREAS, Texas Local Government Code Section 143.021(a) requires that the
City's governing body establish the classifications of all firefighters and prescribe the
numbers of positions in each classification; and
WHEREAS, a clerical error was made by Municipal Code Corporation during the
2010 recodification process that incorrectly omitted one classification listed in the most
recently passed Ordinance No. G-08-04-10-1061, that being a Captain/EMS
classification with one (1) position, thereby erroneously listing the total number of
positions at 121 rather than the correct total of 122 as shown in the executed ordinance;
and
WHEREAS, certain civil service position reclassifications have now occurred
which do not increase the number of positions from the previous correct number of 122:
Now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK,
TEXAS:
That Chapter 2, Sec. 2-78.(d)(2), Code of Ordinances (2010 Edition), City of
Round Rock, Texas, is hereby amended as follows:

Sec. 2-78. - Fire department.
(d) Firefighters civil service classifications and numbers of positions.
(2) The following civil service classifications are hereby established, and the following
numbers of positions in each classification are hereby prescribed:

That the City Council hereby finds that certain civil service position
reclassifications have occurred which do not increase the number of positions.
III.
A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances, or resolutions in conflict herewith are
expressly repealed.
B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance shall not
invalidate other sections or provisions thereof.
C. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date,
hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this ordinance was adopted was posted
and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during
which this ordinance and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and

formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas
Government Code, as amended.

Item Summary:
This ordinance establishes the number of positions for each civil service classification through reclassification. In
addition, it corrects a clerical error that was made by the Municipal Code Corporation during the 2010 recodification
process. They erroneously listed the total number of positions at 121 rather than the correct total of 122. These
civil service position reclassifications in this ordinance do not increase the total number of positions.
