City Council Agenda Summary Sheet
Agenda Item No. *9D3.
Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 42, Section 42-318, Code of Ordinances (2010
Edition), to prohibit parking on a portion of Eagles Nest Street and Orion Street. (Second
Agenda Caption: Reading)
Meeting Date: November 10, 2011
Department: Transportation
Staff Person making presentation: Gary Hudder
Transportation Director
Item Summary:
The Laurel Ridge HOA and the Stoney Brook HOA, adjacent to Caldwell Heights Elementary School, contacted the
City Manager and the Transportation Department with safety concerns regarding school parking, especially at the
approaches to University Boulevard along Eagles Nest Street and Orion Street. After monitoring the internal and
external parking behaviors City staff developed the proposed No -Parking plan for the problem areas. Staff met with
members of the Round Rock Independent School District to review this plan and their staff was happy to accept the
City's help with a problem they had been struggling with.
This No -Parking plan will not effect on -street parking for the residents near the school. Parking will be prohibited on
Orion Street and Eagles Nest Street only along the school's frontage from University Boulevard to approximately 250
feet south. This will also alleviate congestion at these intersections and increase safety for vehicles entering and
exiting the neighborhood. Along with these two No -Parking zones, the Transportation Department will mark the
corners at these two streets' intersections with Satellite View and the areas immediately adjacent to the school's
driveways along Satellite View. These reminders will also help to reduce congestion and improve safety during drop-
off and pick-up times.
