This additional cost associated with this change order are for three items: a wood deck under the east porch, steel reinforcing at the perimeter walls, and additional concrete demolition. The wood deck was originally proposed to be a concrete slab to have a straight flat approach when the building was relocated. The GC did not believe this was necessary for the building move, so a credit was issued for the concrete, and the added cost is the difference in cost to add a deck for access to the entry door. Concerning the steel reinforcing, the base walls were originally designed to be solid stone. Phoenix 1 requested the change to CMU because setting the existing stone walls down onto a stone base would have been much more complicated and unstable by his experience. The structural engineer was on site for an inspection at the time that the base walls were being constructed and immediately provided a directive to the contractor to provide horizontal reinforcing. As a solid stone base, the stone would be bonding to itself City of Round Rock Page 1 Printed on 8!21/2018 Agenda Item Summary Continued CM -2018.1758 and the mortar mechanically through the natural pattern in the stone. Since the CMU is flat, the steel reinforcing is imbedded in the mortar and used to create a better mechanical connection to the stone. The concrete demolition added cost was incurred for demolition of more concrete than was shown in the architectural drawings for the slab at the original site. The contract will also be extended by 70 days to complete the stone work at the site. The project was delayed slightly by the building mover back in April, thus ultimately delaying the overall project timeline.
