The original downtown tank, now referred to as the Downtown Historical Tank, was erected by
Pittsburgh -Des Moines Steel Company in 1936 and immediately placed in service. The tank
remained in service until the 1986 construction of the take Creek well system and ground
storage tank. The tank is an icon of the City and is visible to the entire downtown area and
beyond.
A new coating system was applied, and a lighting contractor has been contracted to furnish the
tower with a lighting scheme designed by Hendrix Consulting Engineers. The lights anchor to
the water tank with clips that have the potential to damage the newly applied coating system.
