Hensel Phelps Construction Co. QUESTION Juan Balderas on 12/15/2021 11:03 AM (Edited by Juan Balderas on 12/15/2021 11:12 AM) Please reference RFI 068 and attached SK - 257. RFI 068 response provides direction to use a concrete pad under the chiller to maintain manufacture warranty. However, the addition of this concrete housekeeping pad does not raise the base of the unit above the roof system to allow for the material build-up and flashing required by the roofing manufacturer. They will require the base of the chiller to be at least 24" above the concrete housekeeping pad. AirCo proposes the addition of engineered steel posts with a base plate that can be anchored to the concrete pad. The top of the post will also have a plate that will allow for anchor points to the chiller. See attached SK - 257 and chiller mounting point loads and locations. Please confirm this is acceptable and advise on what type of supplemental steel support should be utilized. Here is a recap of our conversation. • RFI 068 was written to establish the need to raise the chiller above the roof line using some sort of structure to support it. • It was established to install an equipment pad, but after further vetting the pad would not raise the chiller high enough. • We sent in RA 257 to get a design for steel post since we would not be able to get above the roof line with the equipment pad. • Since the equipment pad was not calculated into the roof structure design we discussed two options. o Option 1— Removal of the equipment pad and attached steel post directly to the deck o Option 2 — Keep the equipment pad and add additional reinforcement under the slab. It was noted that RLG, PGAL and HP thinks this option would be costly. • We discussed its best to proceed with option 1 and remove the equipment pad and attach the posts directly to the deck. o We will laser scan the pad and remove it and all rebar associated with it. o We will also laser scan for PT at the locations identified for the installation of the steel post. This will insure that we do not hit any PT. • Option 1 will still allow us to avoid any roof warranty concerns that we had originally, and will elevate the chiller above the roof to keep the warranty. i rausuuttai rxr i - z-:) / ktccsponucu anu t—ioseu).pui So in all the response to RFI 257 should have the design of the steel post, the post installed/penetration detail for us to anchor into the deck, provide spacing requirements for the post and provide direction to remove the equipment pad. If I have missed anything please let me know. Thank You, Oswald B. Nixon Jr. Project Engineer Round Rock Public Library 300 E. Contract drawings include detail 4/A7.81 for a roof parapet wall. This detail indicates that fluid -applied air barrier is to be applied to the vertical face of the wall and be left exposed. Per manufacturer recommendations, Tremco ExoAir 230 has an exposure limit of 12 months. Also, this detail does not account for the 10-12" clearance above the finished roof required for the two piece counterflashing that is depicted in the approved as noted roofing shop drawings. 1. please advise if the PVC roofing membrane can be installed to the vertical face of the parapet wall or indicate the desired cladding that will cover the air barrier. 2. Please confirm the metal panel can be shortened to account for the two piece counterflashing required by roofing manufacturer. SUGGESTION: ANSWER: 1. Verified, please wrap the PVC roofing membrane up the vertical face and terminate beneath the metal coping cap. 2. Verified, shorten metal panel to provide 10" clearance above roof surface for maintenance. The first is detail 4/A7.81 in the contract drawings indicating Fluid -Applied Air Barrier on the exposed face of a roof parapet wall. The second is Kidd Roofing's shop drawing detail mirroring the same detail. Per the approved submittals, the maximum exposure for the Tremco ExoAir 230 is 12 months. Leaving it as is would obviously exceed the maximum exposure limit. Would you recommend running the PVC roofing membrane up and over the parapet wall? What other material would you use to substitute the fluid -applied air barrier? Erika Bonfanti (Acton Partners) recommends utilizing a high temp membrane beneath the stone coping. The recommendations for material is Carlisle WIP300HT in which is suitable for horizontal applications. In addition, it was recommended by Acton Partners that the top of the wall (framing) should be sloped to prevent water from standing on top of the surface beneath the cast stone and leaking into the interior. I. Please confirm if the Carlisle WIP300HT can be utilized beneath the cast stone coping for the high temp membrane application. 2. Please confirm if the framing beneath the cast stone needs to be sloped to follow the cast stone coping slope as illustrated in detail 12/A7.31. SUGGESTION: Priority: Normal ANSWER; 1.) WIP 300HT is acceptable per Acton's recommendation. No product data was provided with this RFI. Please provide additional product data info for approval if WIP 300HT was not a previously approved or specified product. 2.) Please slope the framing (1/8" per V-0"). This would effectively add 1/2" to the gap beneath the cast -stone coping. Here is a recap of our conversation. • RFI 068 was written to establish the need to raise the chiller above the roof line using some sort of structure to support it. • It was established to install an equipment pad, but after further vetting the pad would not raise the chiller high enough. • We sent in RFI 257 to get a design for steel post since we would not be able to get above the roof line with the equipment pad. 5 I ransmlttal—xlhI • 2J / (Responded and Closed).pdt So in all the response to RFI 257 should have the design of the steel post, the post installed/penetration detail for us to anchor into the deck, provide spacing requirements for the post and provide direction to remove the equipment pad. If I have missed anything please let me know. Thank You, Oswald B. Gina - we want to provide you a background for our reasoning of making these changes in the submittal: For the additional 3 push buttons - as you can see below we have our directory/digital screen between the cabs and this does not allow us to place the 1 push button in the center as it will have to be placed too low. So we'd like to provide 2 push buttons as each floor (circled in red) one on either side of the directory/digital screen. For the hall lantern (highlighted in yellow) we placed the elevator knox box (circled in blue) on the right side of frame so would like to move the hall lantern to the left so they do not overlap and we believe will be more visible to patrons. Please let me know if you'd like to do a quick screenshare to further discuss these changes. PGAL would like to proceed with this update if CORR is okay with changes.
