The City of Round Rock owns a raw water pump station on Lake Georgetown, which supplies water to the
City's water treatment plant. Invasive zebra mussels have been detected in Lake Georgetown and on the
intake structure of the raw water pump station. Zebra mussels have a long history of attaching in massive
quantities to raw water intakes, thereby damaging the infrastructure and restricting flow to the facility.
The purpose of this project is to replace our raw water intake screens with copper alloy screens, which are
zebra muscle resistant. The new screens require minimal maintenance and are less susceptible to clogging
due to zebra mussels. The Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District (MUD) owns and operates a raw water
intake directly adjacent to the City of Round Rock's raw water intake. Brushy Creek MUD is replacing its
raw water intake screens with copper alloy screens similar to the City of Round Rock.
The Utilities & Environmental Services Department opened bids for the project on June 9, 2020. There were
three total bids with Excel Construction coming in as the low bidder. The total contract amount was
$1,834,000.Of that amount, the City of Round Rock's share is $1,208,000. The City is being reimbursed by
Brushy Creek MUD for their share of the project costs based on the terms set forth in the ILA.
Change Order No. 1 is for a change in material type of two 30-inch risers to 316 stainless steel. The change
in material type will allow the risers to be more resistant to corrosion. A credit was provided for not
requiring the contractor to reconnect the existing airlines to the new screens. Additionally, a time

extension of 585 days was provided to allow for material delays and the delay caused by the Brushy Creek
Regional Utility Authority emergency repair. The total value for Change Order No. 1 is $11,985.
