WHEREAS, the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce supports all efforts by the City of Round Rock for
maintaining, preserving, and enhancing the "quality of life" in the Round Rock area;
WHEREAS, the Round Rock City Council is urging the Texas Department of Transportation to
close /and or relocate rest areas located along Interstate 35, north of FM 3406 and south of
Westinghouse Road to a more rural area;
WHEREAS, the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce agrees with the assessment by the City of Round
Rock that development potential of the property located adjacent to these rest areas is adversely
effected:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the Round Rock Chamber of
Commerce declares its support of the Round Rock City Council's Resolution requesting the Texas
Department of Transportation to close and /or relocate aforesaid mentioned rest areas from within the
corporate limits of the City of Round Rock.
Adopted on this 20th day of December, 2001, by the Board of Directors of the Round Rock Chamber of
Commerce.

Dear Mr. Stuard:
Enclosed you will find the City's signed resolution of December 6, 2001 and
Round Rock's Chamber of Commerce signed resolution of December 20,
2001, supporting the relocation of the highway rest areas located along IH -35
to a location outside the corporate limits of the City of Round Rock.
As you know, we feel that these facilities have served the public well over the
years. However, they are now surrounded by our community and they are an
impediment to growth on the adjacent tracts.
Please let us know what can be done to facilitate the closing of these rest areas.

WHEREAS, there are two highway rest areas located along IH 35
north of FM 3406 and south of Westinghouse Road, and
WHEREAS, when originally constructed many years ago, the rest
areas were in a rural area outside the corporate limits of the City,
WHEREAS, both rest areas are now within the corporate limits of
the City, and
WHEREAS, the rest areas adversely affect the development
potential of property located across from said rest areas, and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires that the rest areas be closed
and /or relocated to a more rural area, Now Therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS,
That the City Council hereby urges the Texas Department of
Transportation to close and /or relocate the aforesaid rest areas from
within the corporate limits of the City to a more rural area.
The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of
the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this
Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the
public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and
the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted
upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas
Government Code, as amended.

ITEM: 13.A.1. Consider a resolution supporting the relocation by the Texas
Department of Transportation of the highway rest areas located
along IH 35 north of the city limits of Round Rock.

History: These rest stops were constructed in the early days of I -35 when Round Rock's city
limits were concentrated near the center of town. Intended to serve the motoring
public in rural areas these stops are now surrounded by our growing city.
