R-87-1007 - 6/11/1987ATTEST; NE LAND, City Secretary RESOLUTION NO. ft: 7/` WHEREAS, an election is being called to place a proposition before the Voters concerning the adoption of an additional one -half of one percent (1/2 %) local sales and use Tax within the City to be used to reduce the property tax rate; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Round Rock, Texas wishes to encourage all registered voters in the City of Round Rock to vote in City elections; and WHEREAS, C.D. Fulkes Middle School and Round Rock High School would be easily accessible to voters in the City of Round Rock, Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS that C.D. Fulkes Middle and Round Rock High School are hereby designated as the official polling places for all City elections during the year 1987 and that the attached Election Order calling an election concerning the additional one -half of one percent (1/2 %) local sales and use tax within the City limits to be used to reduce the property tax rate is hereby approved. MIKE ROBINSON, MAYOR City of Round Rock, Texas THE STATE OF TEXAS CITY OF ROUND ROCK I, MIKE ROBINSON, in my capacity as Mayor of the City of Round Rock, Texas, do hereby order that an election be held in said City on the 8th day of August, 1987, at which time there will be submitted to the electors of said City the following proposition: FOR: "The adoption of an additional one -half of one percent ( 1/2%) local sales and use tax within AGAINST: the City to be used to reduce the property tax rate." That said election shall be held at the following places in said City, and the following named persons are hereby appointed officers for said election. In all Election Precincts on the east side of IH35 that are inside the City limits of Round Rock, the voting shall take place at C.D. Fulkes Middle School in said City, with as Presiding Judge, and said Presiding Judge shall appoint the necessary alternate Presiding Judge and clerks to assist her which shall not be less than two. In all Election Precincts on the west side of IH35 that are inside the City limits of Round Rock, the voting shall take place at Round Rock High School in said City, with Dorman Reed as Presiding Judge, and clerks to assist him which shall not be less than two. The polls at the designated polling place shall on said election day be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Joanne Land is hereby appointed Clerk for absentee voting, and shall appoint the necessary deputy clerks for absentee voting. The absentee voting for the above designated election, shall be held at City Hall within said City and said place of absentee voting shall remain open for at least eight hours on each day for absentee voting which is not a Saturday, a Sunday, or an official State holiday, beginning on the 20th day (July 20, 1987) day and continuing through the 4th day (August 4, 1987) preceding the date of said election. Said place of voting shall remain open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on each day for said absentee voting. Absentee voting shall also be held Saturday, July 25, 1987 from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the same location as regular absentee voting, The above described place for absentee voting is .also the absentee clerk's mailing address to which ballot applications and ballots voted by mail may be sent. Absentee voting, both by personal appearance and by mail, shall be by paper ballots and shall be canvassed by the Presiding .fudge and the duly appointed clerks at C.D. Fulkes Middle School. That said election shall be held in accordance with the Election code of this State and only resident qualified voters of said City shall be eligible to vote at said election. Notice of said election will be given in accordance with the terms and provisions of Article 4.05 of the Election Code and Article 29e and the City Secretary is hereby instructed to have said notice posted and published in accordnce with Articles 4.05 and 29e. That immediately after said election is held, the officers holding the same shall make returns of the result thereof to the Mayor of this City as required by the Election Code of this State. A copy of this order shall also serve as a writ of election which shall be delivered to the above appointed Presiding Judges, for said election. DATED this 10th day of June, 1987. This resolution and order calling election is for the purpose of presenting to the electors of the City the opportunity to adopt an additional one -half of one percent (1/2 %) local sales and use tax within the City to be used to reduce the property tax rate. The date of the election will be Saturday, August 8th., 1987. Absentee voting will be held at City Hall beginning on the 20th day of July and continuing through the 4th day of August 1987. Vdters will also have an opportunity to absentee vote on Saturday, July 25, 1987 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at City Hall. Public hearings will be scheduled in conjunction with the regular City Council Meetings in July.
