RESOLVED this age day of October, 1987. MIKE ROBINSON, Mayor City of Round Rock, Texas RECOMMENDATION TO ACCEPT BIDDER FOR ELECTRICAL AND CEILING WORK FOR THE ROUND ROCK PUBLIC LIBRARY, SECOND SERIES OF BIDS It is recommended that the City accept the bid of Hi -Tech Construction Company as the best and lowest bid. The final cost is $16,990, and will take 17 working days for completion. The electrician will be a master electrician certified to work in the City of Round Rock. Mr. Douglas Johnson has recently completed work with Jerry Hunter Liquor Store and Hill Country Bible Church, at $30,000 and $120,000 respectively. Both references strongly recommended him for his ability to solve a problem, finish work on time, even if it meant completing the work himself, stayed on schedule and within budget. the final product was excellent, with both gentlemen stating that they had never worked with a contractor so cooperative and diligent. Other references from other firms reflected the same confidence and support. In discussion with the City Inspection Department, Mr. Johnson was able to work well within the requirements of the city. Mr. Johnson is also an engineer by education. Four bids were submitted during this second request for bids. The bid requests were changed to request a timeline for completion and to add a $50 per day penalty for late charges for work done past the mutually acceptable schedule. The bids submitted are reflected on the following page. Hi -tech, owned by Douglas Johnson, was the lowest and best bid, based on telephone interviews with prior clients of Mr. Johnson. It is highly recommended that the City Council accept a contractor who is able to manage both the construction work of the ceiling and the electrical subcontractor. Based on the phone interviews. he is able to do this. The library staff does not have the staff or expertise to adequately monitor this level of electrical and building requirements. A building permit will be issued and electrical work inspected through the life of the project.
