R-88-1093 - 2/25/1988f ^ � WHEREAS, the Texas State Legislature in House Bill 28, now requires all municipalities that were previously required to hold their general election of officers on the first Saturday in April to hold these elections on the first Saturday in May beginning in 1988; AND WHEREAS, it is further provided in House Bill 28, that if a runoff election is required to be held as a result of an election on the first Saturday in May, that said runoff election must be held on either the next to last or last Saturday in May, Now Therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS That the last Saturday in May be designated as the date on which a runoff election shall be held as a result of any election held on the first Saturday in May. STAFF RESOURCE PERSON:Joanne,Land STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Because of a change in the State Election Code Round Rock is now required to designate either the next to last Saturday in May or the last Saturday in May as the official day for a run -off Council election if one is needed. Staff requests the Council consider designating the last Saturday in May as the run -off date to allow more time for printing of ballots and absentee voting.
