DATE: February 7, 1989
SUBJECT: Council Agenda, February 9, 1989
ITEM: 9A. Consider a resolution approving a design for the
intersection of Main /Mays /Round Rock Avenue.
STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Joe Vining
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approval of a resolution supporting Alternate #3.
Alternate #3 has been unanimously recommended by the Planning and
Zoning Commission.
The Commission received input from property owners at the public
hearings, held on January 19th and February 2nd. This input
dealt with several concerns. These were as follows:
1) The timing of construction on Mays which would affect
access to local businesses.
2) Specific questions concerning detailed design.
3) The need for changes in the intersection at all.
The Commission's recommendation included a request for the State
Department of Highways and Public Transportation to work closely
with the merchants to incorporate design details including on-
street parking, requested by merchants, which are compatible with
good engineering practice and to minimize the impact of construction
on businesses in the area.
The State Department of Highways and Public Transportation requires
your approval of a single concept so that they may continue their
design of this intersection. This detailed design will consider
the comments presented at the public hearings.
