R-89-1330 - 9/14/1989WHEREAS: President George Bush will be the Host for the 1990 Economic Summit; and WHEREAS: President Bush has indicated that he was considering holding the Summit in Texas; and WHEREAS: the City of San Antonio has been mentioned as one of the sites receiving consideration; and WHEREAS: The Mayor and City Council of San Antonio have extended an invitation to President Bush to Host the 1990 Economic Summit in San Antonio and offered the full backing and support of the city government to the President; and WHEREAS: It would be very advantageous to the economic development of the Greater Austin -San Antonio Corridor Council to have the Economic Summit held in the Corridor. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Round Rock City Council endorses the selection of San Antonio as a site for the 1990 Economic Summit and points out the many historic and cultural resources available in San Antonio and the Greater Austin -San Antonio Corridor; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Round Rock Council joins the other member governments of the Greater Austin -San Antonio Corridor Council in providing a warm and cordial welcome to the distinguished international visitors and members of the media and general public who would be in our region for the Summit. Attached is a copy of the resolution which the Greater Austin -San Antonio Corridor Council unanimously adopted on August 14, 1989. In addition to this resolution, President Lee Cooke and Past President Lila Cockrell are asking that each governmental entity adopt a resolution of support, or if time does not permit, that the Chief Executive Officer write a letter of support for San Antonio to host the Economic Summit. I am certain you recognize the regional impact that such an important international event will have. Further, we are asking each business and corporation to provide a letter of resolution as well as letters of support.
