STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Over the past 10 years approximately 3,000 volumes have been checked out and not
returned. The library is interested in obtaining as many of these volumes as
possible. Libraries nationwide hold an amnesty period whereby patrons are
encouraged to return books and all related fines and fees are deleted from the
patrons' records. The amnesty program is offered only every 10 -20 years.
After the amnesty program, more assertive methods of collecting on delinquent
accounts will proceed. However, we prefer to get the books back rather than
pursue other courses of action.
