BOX 1085 GEORGETOWN, TEXAS 78627 -1085 244.1608 863 -7560 AUSTIN GEORGETOWN Renovation of WCAD Building 352 -8542 TAYLOR Problem The appraisal district's building has several leaks in the roof, which have been repaired on several occasions but would begin to leak again in a few weeks. After having several roofing contractors and an architect look into the situation it was determined that the support system for the roof was not of - sufficient strength or design. This was creating a safety hazard due to the possibility of the roof collapsing under certain stress conditions. Possible Solutions The Board looked at several options including purchasing another building, leasing space, tearing the existing roof off and replacing the support system, building a new building, and building a shell around the existing building. Resolution The shell around the existing building was the most economical and would not disrupt the work of the staff. The contract is for $14.30 square foot. The other options were $20.00 square foot and up including the cost of moving. The Board's decision was to build the shell around the William- son County Appraisal District office building.
