RESOLVED this 27th day of February, 1992. ATTEST: NE LAND, City Secretary RS02272B RESOLUTION NO. / 6942 / 6 MIKE ROBINSON, Mayor City of Round Rock, Texas EL AMISTAD CLUB P.O. BOX 853 ROUND ROCK, TEXAS 78664 Honorable members of the city council; February 02,1992 It is again time for our club to request the use of the downtown area for our annual Fiesta Amistad. The fiesta this year will be on Saturday, 5/23/92, and Sunday, 5/24/92. We are again asking the council to approve the request to use the downtown area and to close the streets at the appropriate times. Since 1988 that you requested we move our Fiesta downtown, we have conducted our Fiesta in downtown Round Rock. The Hispanic community of Round Rock received this move very positively, because it demonstrated this city's pride in the cultural diversity of Round Rock. The fiesta has remained a "Hispanic Community" fiesta in the hispanic tradition. Historically, our fiesta's are held close to or in the community. We Consider the "flats" subdivision the heart of the hispanic community in Round Rock, and we wish to keep our fiesta close to the community. Since our fiesta is on Saturday afternoon and Sunday, it is of minimal impact to downtown merchants. We are again making adjustments this year to cut the impact on Saturday even more by moving the closing of the streets back to 5:00 PM on Saturday, moving the opening of our gates to 6 PM, and by again eliminating our parade. We believe these adjustments are in the spirit of showing that we want to cooperate and to have good relations with our downtown merchants. We have extended an invitation to our downtown merchants to join us in celebrating our hispanic heritage and to participate in our celebration. The hispanic community is a major business customer in Round Rock, and we see this as an opportunity for our merchants to gain some valuable positive exposure to their hispanic customers.
