WHEREAS, Ahijah W. "Caige" Grimes was appointed to the position of
Texas Ranger on September 20, 1887; and
WHEREAS, after serving as a distinguished Texas Ranger, Grimes came to
Williamson County to serve as the deputy sheriff stationed in Round Rock; and
WHEREAS, the outlaw Sam Bass and his gang decended on Round Rock in
July of 1878 to rob a bank; and
WHEREAS, Grimes confronted the famed Sam Bass at which time Bass shot
Grimes six times mortally wounding him; and
WHEREAS, the Round Rock City Council wishes to honor Ahijah W. "Caige"
Grimes for his heroic efforts;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ROUND ROCK,TEXAS
That the new Police Facility located at 615 E. Palm Valley Blvd. be
officially dedicated to slain Williamson County deputy, Ahijah W. Grimes and
that a plaque noting the dedication be placed in a prominent place on the Police
Building.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The Police Officers Association has respectfully
requested that the new Police Facility be dedicated to the memory of A.W.
Grimes. Grimes was the Williamson County deputy killed by Sam Bass on that
fateful day in July of 1878. Jim Stewart will make the presentation.
