The following series of Physical Performance Events are
designed to test the applicants strength, endurance, and
agility, in a manner which parallels as closely as possible
the demands made on the Police Officer. The series is
divided in two parts, the Warm -up and the Action.
WARM -UP
This is standard procedure for athletes and persons taking
part in physical activity the purpose is to raise the
internal temperature of the muscles, thereby increasing the
elasticity and extensibility. It increases the applicants'
chances for passing the test and minimizes the chance of
injury. It is not designed to meet any job - related function
but rather, to prepare the applicants' body to meet the
strain imposed by the action events. This portion of the
test is not considered in the grading. .

ACTION EVENTS
1. OBSTACLE COURSE
CITY ROUND ROCK j010 /012
Police Officers often encounter a variety of obstacles
during their time of duty. It may often be a life or death
situation and the measure of success or failure will often
rest with the ability of the Police Officer to master these
obstacles rapidly and effectively.
A. .Low Obstacle or Hurdle (30 ") 2 1/2 ft. jump.
This simulates low hedges, garbage cans, flower
bed edging and other low obstacles.
B. Pence Surmount or Short Wall (48 ") 4 ft. Vault.
Simulates the average backyard fence, short walls,
stairway rail and other similar obstacles.
C_ High Wall Surmount (72 ") 6 ft. Climb.
Simulates the back yard board fence, a low roof, a
high window, or other similar obstacles.
D. Run and Dodge or Serpentine (Slalom)
Simulates running through a crowded area such as a
crowed street, showcases in a store, a parking lot
or other similar places.
E. Culvert or Tunnel.
Simulate moving through a storm drain, under a low
bridge, or an otherwise confined space.
F. Balance Beam.
Simulates crossing over a section of very narrow
space such as a cat walk at a construction site,
a pipe or tree across a creek, a narrow building
ledge or roof top ledge
G. Balance Bar.
Simulates the same conditions as F shows only
balancing at a right angle to the other position.
H. Horizontal Ladder.
Simulates climbing as in climbing trees, partially
constructed buildings, towers and serves to
demonstrate strength and endurance by the
supporting of body weight with upper torso
muscles.
The examiner stays in a positions to closely observe the
applicant to insure he or she doesn't "short -cut" any of the
obstacles and times the completion with a stop- watch.

2. STAIRWAY RUN
This activity closely duplicates the response of time,
distance and physical functions required in traversing
stairs both up and down in an emergency. Police Officers in
the field must often run up and down stairs in multi-
dwelling buildings, office buildings, stadiums, or fire
escapes, to affect arrests and /or rescues.
Execution
The applicant proceeds to the stairs where the applicant
will run up and down the simulated flight of stairs four
times. This will simulate four floors. Upon completing
this event the applicant will move to the log drag.
3. TRANSPORT (LOG DRAG)
This event duplicates activity performed by Police Officers
in moving a person unconscious or incapable of movement,
from a place of danger to safety. For this event will use a
log drag.
Execution
As applicant completes the obstacle course he or she will
approach the Log Drag. The applicant will pull or drag the
Log Drag 30 yards from one designated spot to another. Upon
completing this event the applicant will begin his or her
quarter mile run.
4. QUARTER MILE RUN (440)
CITY ROUND ROCK
Endurance and stamina are the tested qualities of this
event. The run is made on a hard dirt surface at the
testing site.
It is planned that applicant's will be required to complete
each event in its entirety on a pass /fail basis and that
the only criterion for judging whether they score high or
low would be by the time standards for each event.
Each applicant for the Police Department will be required to
take the Physical Agility Test. The applicant will be timed
from the starting line of the Agility Test until he or she
crosses the finish line.
