Subject: Summer Jobs for Teens
We would like to initiate a Summer Jobs for Teens campaign. The campaign
would have four elements:
1. A Summer Jobs for Teens hot line for teens to register for summer jobs
and for employers to list summer jobs.
2. A computerized data base to match teens and employers.
3. A concerted city-wide effort to generate summer jobs for teens.
4. A publicity campaign to encourage teens to apply for summer jobs.
Bob Bennett has offered a telephone line for the duration of the campaign. We
need approximately $20. per month to add voicemail to the line to record calls.
Dell Factory Outlet has contributed a computer system and Dale Riklefs has
offered a room at the library to set it up. Kaleidoscope Software has donated
database software and has volunteered to train our operators in its use. Round
Rock High School is seeking the necessary volunteers to transcribe the
voicemail messages into the database. These volunteers will be trained and
supervised by Kaleidoscope Software.
We would like to request the City Council at its next meeting to officially en-
dorse the Summer Jobs for Teens campaign. We would like to ask the Mayor
and the City Council to help persuade employers and citizens to hire teens this
summer.
We would like the Commission's approval to initiate the Summer Jobs for
Teens campaign as outlined above.

Subject: Summer Afternoon Program for Children Age 5 -12
In cooperation with Williamson Counry and the Round Rock Independent School
District, we would like to co- sponsor a supervised afternoon program for kids age 5-
12 who, if such a program is unavailable, would be unable to attend summer
school,
RRISD Food Services will prepare and serve lunch and an afternoon snack to all
program participants. The YMCA has indicated willingness to supervise the in-
school afternoon activities from noon until 6:00 p.m. Sharon Prete has expressed
willingness to accept up to 130 children per day in afternoon activities supervised
by her department. RRISD has expressed willingness to transport the 130 children
each day from summer school to the designated park location(s). Sharon has indi-
cated that her department could transport the children back co their home cam-
puses. Williamson County Juvenile Services has volunteered 5 adults and 18 teens
to assist with afternoon activities wherever they are most needed.
RRISD has budgeted funds for their participation in this year's summer afternoon
program. Sharon has requested than we approach the City Council to appropriate
the $4,000. that they gave to Project Summertime last year and make these funds
available for this summer's afternoon program.
We request the Commision's approval to propose to the City Council at its next
meeting that the City of Round Rock co- sponsor with Williamson County and the
RRISD the Summer Afternoon Program for Children Age 5 -12 as outlined above
and that they appropriate $4,000. to support it.
