For your information and to help expedite the appraisal district boards election/appointment process I am presenting the following summary: Williamson County Appraisal District (WCAD) The WCAD is responsible for appraising property in the county at its market value (or productivity value in some cases). All property is to appraised uniformly and at 100% of the value. The WCAD is also responsible for administering tax exemptions as required by law and adopted by the taxing entities. The appraised property values as set by the WCAD are used by the taxing entities in setting tax rates for their jurisdictions. Williamson County Appraisal District Board of Directors • Nominations due to the chief appraiser: October 15, 1995 • Votes to be cast by: November 14, 1995 wcad96, 9/19/95, 1 This 5- member board sets policies for the Williamson County Appraisal District (WCAD) and hires the chief appraiser (Donna Mott). The board also approves the WCAD annual budget which is funded by pro -rated assessments of the taxing entities in the county The directors serve 2 -year, unpaid terms that begin on January 1 of even - numbered years The terms are not staggered and expire December 31, 1995. The ARB is appointed by the WCAD Board of Directors from nominations submitted by the taxing entities. ARB members are paid ($37.50 per half day), meet daily from April through July, serve staggered 2 -year terms and cannot serve more than 3 terms. I. Consider a resolution nominating members to the Williamson County Appraisal District Board of Directors. (Tabled 9/28/95) STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: David Kautz STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The term of office for the Williamson County Appraisal District Board of Directors will expire December 31, 1995. Each of the Voting Units (County, Cities, School Districts, MUDs, etc) is entitled to submit up to five names as nominees for these positions. The names are to be submitted by written resolution to the Chief Appraiser by October 15, 1995. Before October 30, a copy of the ballot will be delivered to the Mayor. The City will cast its votes by written resolution and submit it to the Chief Appraiser by November 14. The attached memo briefly describes the status of the board.
