R- 96- 02- 08 -10A CHARLES CUL E R, Mayor City of Round Rock, Texas 4 i HOT INSPECTION SERVICES, INC. Welding Conaulients & Inspection Specialists Welding & Fabrication Inspection & Testing January 10, 1996 James R. Nuse, P.E. Director of Public Works City Of Round Rock 221 E. Main Street Round Rock, Texas 78664 Dear Jim: MAILING: P.O. So: 12oe Round Rock. TX 78880 SHIPPING: 1411 Sam Bass Rd. Round Rock, TX 78881 (512) 244.2523 FAX: 2440607 The structural steel inspection contract will expire on February 9 of this year. This marks our tenth year as being the special Inspector on behalf of the city which makes it appropriate that I share some of the past history and monetary results from our Inspection contract with you. Over the past ten years we have Inspected sixty -four (64) building projects equaling 2,375,450 square feet. Our permitted collections from these projects have totaled $81,991.00 that does not include $2,150.00 of uncollected fees or donated inspection time. In summary our total time logged for these 64 projects equals 2,147 hours that calculates to be $85,880.00 at our normal inspection rate of $40.00/hr. As you can see the difference is $2,340.00 Less than what the fees would have been at the hourly rate charge. Because we are local and have been able to expedite the inspections In a productive manner, the logged time and collected fees do not seem to be far apart. Please know that our inspection procedures and logged hours do not include any nonproductive time such as administration. Attached is a break down of the project totals for each of the 10 years. In closing I would like to reiterate the importance of special inspections such as our steel inspection and the remaining building inspections conducted by your staff. This year more than ever, I have seen substandard quality products, workmanship and supervision on the jobsite. Without the inspectors doing their Job correctly some of these projects may have resulted In failure. As you know we encountered a few problems this past year that I felt were a result of cost cutting and a disregard of quality standards by the contractor. The issues were professionally evaluated and discussed then finally assumed by the ultimate decision makers of these projects, being the owner, engineer, and architect. NOT INSPECTION SERVICES, INC. Welding Coneultanta & Inspection Specialism Welding & Fabrication Inspection & Testing As always I wilt continue to make sure that the safety and best Interest of our community is considered when servicing the inspection contract that we have with the City Of Round Rock. If you feel that extending the inspection period for more than one year is appropriate, I would certainly like to talk with you about an extended period. Jim, I appreciate your confidence and support In recommending the renewal of our contract as you have done In the past.
