SUBJECT: City Council Meeting - March 27,1997
ITEM: 11.C. Consider a resolution approving the 1997 Child Safety Fine Budget.
STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Buster Kuhlmann
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
The Legislature enacted a statute which designates all revenues that are received
from school zone offenses be placed in a special account. These revenues are to go
directly for school zone improvements. The account has a current balance of $10,900.
In order to spend the money, the attached budget was developed. q
Staff proposes $5,000 be allocated to replacing two (2) current school zoneAwith
two (2) flashing school zone signs. It is our goal to over the next few years replace all
existing non - flashing signs with flashing signs. A priority list will be developed along
with the Round Rock Independent School District input.
Also, staff recommends a $4,000 contingency fund for routine replacement
and /or repair of existing school zone improvements.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed expenditures of $9,000 leaving a
balance in the fund of $1,900.
