CITY OF ROUND ROCK'S
WATER SUPPLY INTERCONNECT POLICY
1.01. Except as provided below, no water connection to the
City's public drinking water supply system shall be made to another
public drinking water system without an air gap separation between
the two systems.
1.02 If it is not practical to provide for a containment
air gap, then "internal" air gaps or mechanical backflow prevention
devices will be required.
1.03. Air gaps or mechanical backflow prevention devices
will not be required (1) where the connection to another public
drinking water supply system is on an emergency only basis, or (2)
where the City is the sole source of water for another public
drinking water supply system.

SUBJECT: City Council Meeting, September 25, 1997
ITEM: 13P. Consider a resolution establishing a policy for requiring back flow
prevention devices.
STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Jim Nuse
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
In order to protect the City's potable water supply, staff recommends requiring back flow
prevention devices to be placed between the City's water supply system and other water
supply systems. These would not be required for any "emergency basis only" connections
or systems whereby Round Rock is the sole provider of water.
