Utilities Engineer City of Round Rock 2008 Enterprise Round Rock, TX 78664 I-D:1 Re: Contract Amendment to the 1998/99 Water System Improvement Project — 8 1N Standpipe Bypass and Solenoid Control Vault Dear Mr. Miller: In the Draft Preliminary Engineering Report, North -South Water Transmission Line, presented to the Public Works Department December 9' a critical improvement at the 81N Standpipe was identified. The recommendations include modifying the 24 -inch piping at the 81 North Standpipe to allow water to bypass the tank and flow from PP1031 into PP 971. Improvements include approximately 120 LF of 24 -inch piping, 24 -inch valve, a new vault and modifications to an existing solenoid valve. These improvements were show by modeling to greatly enhance the ability to move water from PP 1031 to PP 971 and maintain acceptable water levels throughout the system under a 1999 peak day condition. The opinion of probable construction cost for this work is approximately $50,800. It is recommended that the work described above be included in the Contract No. 2 — Southeast Elevated Tank Pump Station & Site Improvements, which will be advertised for construction bids in January. Including the work in this contract is recommended because it will reduce engineering cost by eliminating the preparation of complete stand alone bidding documents and the construction management of another contractor. HDR and Baker- Aiklen & Associates are prepared to complete design phase services for the 81N Standpipe piping improvements described above on the basis of Lump Sum in the amount of Nine Thousand Five Hundred Ninety Dollars ($9,590.00). This fee shall include a Lump Sum fee of One Thousand Nine Hundred Ninety Dollars ($1990.00) for subconsultant Baker - Aicklen & Associates. Bidding, Construction Administration, and Startup /As -Built will be included as part of the 1998/99 Water System Improvement Contract. This work would be completed under Part D. Special Assignments and Services of the Contract for Engineering Services between the City of Round Rock and HDR dated June 11, 1998.
