CHARLES CULPEPPE , Mayor
City of Round Rock, Texas

Dear Mayor & City Council Members:
"ServirukRo uv;LRock'Conu u4 ty for over 30 years
E1 Amidtad Club
P.O. Box 853, Round Rock, TX 78680
Our club is a nonprofit civic organization that has been in existence for
thirty-one years. The organization has always operated in the
community of Round Rock, and its main goal is to provide financial
assistance in the form of scholarships to high school graduates. The dub
also sponsors various youth leadership development activities, such as
the Lorenzo De Zavala Legislative Session. In addition, we also provide
emergency funds for needy families in the area. As you can see, El
Amistad intends on making a positive impact on our entire community,
especially with our young people. Our scholarship program has reached
$35,000 a year and has expanded to include grants to students at all grade
levels, allowing them to participate in educational programs during the
summer. Furthermore, individuals, families, and community groups also
benefit from the $15,000 plus donations, which our organization makes
annually.
As you know, for the past several years El Amistad Club of Round Rock
has celebrated Fiesta Amistad activities in downtown during the
Memorial Day weekend. In order to continue this tradition, we are again
asking to close downtown streets to vehicular traffic in the same manner
as previous years. This year we would like close the streets at 3:00 p.m.
on Saturday, May 29, 1999 until 1:00 a.m. and from 12:00 noon until 12:00
midnight on Sunday, May 30,1999.
Downtown merchants will be contacted in person about the activities
during these two days. Needless to say, we will be listening to any
concerns that they may have concerning our project. Our intent is to not
impede downtown business but rather to enhance downtown activity.
Furthermore, we have discussed our plans with the Fire Department &
the Police Department.
Thank you for your consideration. I will be addressing any questions at
the February 11, 1999 City Council meeting.
