Justification:
This Change Order is for unforeseen conditions that were identified with the
wastewater collection system in the Round Rock West Street Improvements project
area.
Funding:
Cost: $12,050
Source of funds: 2002 G. O. Bonds
General Self -Financed Construction
Outside Resources: H. Deck Construction Co.
Background Information:
The Round Rock West Street Improvements project was underway when the
wastewater inspection efforts for the Edwards Aquifer requirements began in the
same area. While the City's camera crews were videotaping the wastewater lines in
the Round Rock West subdivision, they discovered a few manholes and cleanouts
that had been buried, apparently for many years. The wastewater rehabilitation
project for this area is not scheduled to begin for at least a year. The Round Rock
West Street Improvements project has placed additional pavement over these
manholes and cleanouts. The Round Rock West Street Improvements project
contract has items to adjust manholes and cleanouts, but those items were
intended to raise utilities that were visible to the finished grade of the new
pavement. The utilities in question were already covered with asphalt when
construction of this project began and could take a much greater effort to raise.
The depth of the utilities in question is unknown. H. Deck was the general
contractor for the '04-'05 wastewater rehab project and they are currently a sub-
contractor for the '05-'06 wastewater rehab project, so they are familiar with the
type of work that is required. By using H. Deck to make these adjustments, we can
utilize the fact that they are already mobilized in the area. Also, we can keep the
pavement repairs uniform, since they are doing all of the pavement work in the
Round Rock West Street Improvements project.
