CM-06-07-162Federal Project ITS 2000 (994) MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING Consensus for the Regional ITS Architecture for the Austin Region Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are an important part of the operation of surface transportation systems and service to the traveling public. The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century section 5206(e) required that ITS projects implemented using monies from the Highway Trust Fund conform to the National ITS Architecture. This requirement was continued in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users section 5307(c). A Regional ITS Architecture has been developed for the Austin Region that defines a common framework to promote interoperability and efficiency. The architecture is an outline for the direction of. ITS in the Austin Region as interpreted by the entities participating in the development of the architecture. The Regional ITS Architecture will require periodic updating to accommodate changes in this ITS vision, revisions to the National ITS Architecture, and inclusion of additional agencies. In the Regional ITS Architecture, the Austin Region is defined as all counties within the geographic boundaries of the Texas Department of Transportation's Austin District (TxDOT). The undersigned agencies hereby acknowledge the Austin Regional ITS Architecture and pledge to work together in the Region to coordinate and cooperate in the planning, implementation, integration, and operation of ITS systems and pledge to provide TxDOT with the information and support necessary to maintain the Regional ITS Architecture. This support includes the assignment of agency staff resources, cooperation of agency management, and the application for available funding necessary to maintain and ensure project compliance with the Regional ITS Architecture. TxDOT will serve as the agency responsible for coordinating the maintenance of the Austin Regional ITS Architecture.
