CM-08-04-080DATE: March 31, 2008 SUBJECT: City Manager Approval ITEM: Bulletproof Vests Partnership (BVP) Program Department: Staff Person: Justification: Police Department Jennifer Soto/Sherrill Voll For many years, the City has participated in the Bulletproof Vests Partnership (BVP) Program, a grant program offered by the U.S. Department of Justice. This program is administered by the Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance. The program reimburses agencies half the cost of purchasing soft body armor for law enforcement officers. This Department will utilize program funds for all scheduled vest replacements during the 2008/2009 fiscal year. The cost shown below actually is half of the cost of anticipated bulletproof vest purchases during the program period, which runs from May 1, 2008, to April 30, 2009. Were the City not to participate in the program, it would bear the full cost of new and replacement vests during these fiscal years.
