Improvements Project.

Michael D. Thane, P.E., Director of Utilities
Justification:
Change Order No. 1 to the construction contract for the RM 1431-2MG elevated water storage
tank includes a change to a higher grade of Tnemec exterior coating system. This system
provides a longer and clearer finish with a 10 -year warranty in lieu of the standard one-year
warranty. Also with this change order, the interior horizontal pedestal piping is being changed
from a ductile iron pipe that requires a coating system to a stainless steel pipe which does not
require a coating. The final item in this change order is a reduction in the overflow pipe
diameter from 24 -inches to 16 -inches.

Background Information:
With the RM 1431-2.0 MG Elevated Water Storage Tank, the City can more efficiently deliver
potable water from our current Water Treatment Plant. Additionally, our future Brushy Creek
Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) Water Treatment Plant will benefit from this project as well.
In addition to this project, two other projects are required to meet our obligations under an
Interlocal Agreement for Emergency Water Supply between the Cities of Round Rock and Cedar
Park. This agreement was approved by Council on May 24, 2007. These projects included the
RM 1431 36 -inch Water Line project which was recently completed along with the 7.5 MGD
High Service Pump project that is under construction. Cedar Park has contributed $1,000,000
toward these projects per said agreement.
