ITEM: Consider executing Supplemental Contract No. 1 with Aguirre & Fields, L.P. for the
Georgetown Street Bridge over Brushy Creek Project.

Engineering and Development Services
Danny Halden, P.E., City Engineer
This contract is to perform geotechnical engineering and evaluation, and to obtain
recommendations regarding repair/stabilization of the approach area immediately north of the
Georgetown Street Bridge.
Funding:
Cost: $7,400
Source of funds: General Fund
Outside Resources: Aguirre & Fields, L.P.
Background Information:
The approach area at the north end of the Georgetown Street Bridge has settled and the
sidewalk has experienced significant cracking. Previous efforts by the City to raise or repair the
approach area have only provided temporary relief. Aguirre & Fields, L.P. has been retained to
determine a viable long term solution to the approach area problem and for proper design of
the sidewalk repairs. The original contract also included services to perform a cursory
assessment of the entire bridge for ensuring that the bridge will remain functional and
serviceable for the public.
The original contract was approved on April 25, 2008. Aguirre and Fields has previously
performed the bridge assessment and found the bridge to be in satisfactory condition. The City
expended $4,000 of the original $15,000 contract on the bridge assessment.
This supplement will add geotechnical investigation and evaluation to the scope contained in
the original contract which will help to direct the approach area design work that has not yet
been undertaken as part of the original contract.
