SUBJECT: City Manager Approval — December 18, 2009
ITEM: Consider executing Antiquities Permit Application Form Archeology with the
Texas Historical Commission regarding the Southwest Downtown Project 1.
Department: Transportation Services
Staff Person: Thomas E. Word, P.E., Chief of Public Works Operations
Justification:
SWCA Environmental Consultants will conduct an intensive archaeological and historic
structures survey of the proposed Main Street Extension Project. The project will include the
construction of approximately 600 linear feet of new roadway, consisting of a bridge over Lake
Creek with curb and gutter, storm sewers and utility adjustments, sidewalks for pedestrians and
accommodates for access to a future trail along Lake Creek. The project Area of Potential
Effects (APE) for archaeological resources is defined as the approximately 600 foot long, 300
foot wide new roadway. The APE for historic resources, utilizing TxDOT standards extends for
an additional 150 feet beyond the 300 foot wide project area boundary and includes the
entirety of any legal parcel of land crossed by the project area.
Strategic Plan Relevance:
❖ 22.0 Foster transportation systems that would support the development of major density
centers
❖ 26.0 Construct major elements of the transportation and mobility system as approved by
Council in the Master Transportation Plan
