O q 11I AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2.02.005 OF THE POLICE POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUAL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT AND PROBATION OF RESERVE OFFICERS WITH THE ROUND ROCK POLICE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING FOR A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS: I. That Section 2.02.005 of the Round Rock Police Policy and Procedure Manual is amended by deleting Section 2.02.005 and adding the following language: 2.02.005 APPOINTMENT AND PROBATION Reserve officer applicants meeting the minimum standards of background, physical and mental competence, and training, are eligible for appointment. Appointment is made at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Reserves serve an initial probationary period of one (1) year. At the end of this period, the reserve officer is given an assessment of his/her performance and may be terminated as a reserve officer if the Chief of Police believes it would be in the best interest of the Department. This does not preclude the termination of the reserve officer before or after the completion of the one year probation. A reserve officer appointment is terminated by the Chief of Police at any time the Chief of Police feels that the termination would be in the best interest of the Police Department and the City. II. A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances, or resolutions in conflict herewith are expressly repealed. B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof. OR04120D Alternative 1. Additionally, applicants for reserve positions are screened through the same selection procedures conducted for applicants for the position of regular officer. 2.02.004 INITIAL TRAINING If the applicant has not received satisfactory prior training, the applicant is required to complete an approved Reserve Officer Training Academy program consisting of all training required by TCLEOSE for reserve officers prior to appointment. Additionally, reserve officers must complete a Department orientation. 2.02.005 APPOINTMENT AND PROBATION Reserve officer applicants meeting the minimum standards of background, physical and mental competence, and training, are eligible for appointment. A reserve officer appointment may be terminated by the Chief of Police at any time the Chief feels that the termination would be in the best interest of the Police Department and the City. 2.02.006 ADVANCED RESERVE OFFICER STATUS A reserve officer may apply for Advanced Reserve Officer status after completion of a TCLEOSE approved Advanced Reserve Officer training course conducted by an approved training academy. The reserve officer must have also completed two (2) years of service as a reserve officer for the Round Rock Police Department (includes the one year probationary period) prior to applying for Advanced Reserve status.
