AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 11 SECTION 10, CODE OF
ORDINANCES, CITY OF ROUND ROCK, BY ADDING A PARAGRAPH D.
WHICH ESTABLISHES THE COMMENCMENT OF TERMS OF OFFICE FOR
NEWLY -ELECTED MAYORS AND CITY COUNCILMEMBERS, PROVIDING A
SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES.
WHEREAS, in order to provide for the continuity of government
and to add to the efficiency in administering the operation of the
City through its Mayor and Councilmembers; Now Therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK,
TEXAS:
I.
That Chapter 1, Section 10, Code of Ordinances, City of Round
Rock is hereby amended by adding Paragraph (D) which shall read as
follows:
D. Beginning with the election held on the first Saturday in
May, 1990, and continuing thereafter, the City Council
shall meet on the Monday immediately following the election
or runoff to canvas the votes and the terms of each
newly -elected Mayor or Councilmembers shall commence on the
date of the first regularly scheduled City Council meeting
held immediately following the election or runoff, if
necessary.
II.
A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances, or resolutions in
conflict herewith are expressly repealed.
B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this
ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof.
Alternative 1.
By motion duly made, seconded and passed with an affirmative
vote of all the Council members present, the requirement for reading
this ordinance on two separate days was dispensed with.

elected Council members to assume office. (First
Reading)

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
As explained at the last meeting by Mayor Pro -tem Culpepper,
it is recommended new Council members be sworn in and assume office
the first regular Council meeting in May. The canvass of the election
would occur the first Monday after the first Saturday (election day)
in May.
