Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a contract with Champion Coatings for the Inspection/Repainting of the Chisholm Valley Elevated Water Storage Agenda Caption: Tank Project. Meeting Date: February 14, 2013 Department: Utilities and Environmental Services Staff Person making presentation: Michael Thane, P.E. Utilities and Environmental Services Director Item Summary: The Chisholm Valley Elevated Water Storage Tank is located off of Hesters Crossing Boulevard near the la Frontera Development. The tank was constructed over ten years ago and was painted with a web site addresses which is no longer in use. The City staff wishes to remove the web site address and apply the current City of Round Rock logo in its place. The City hired John Konzen/HOT Inspection Services, Inc. to inspect the tank and found minimal defects to the existing interior and exterior coating. The work to be performed in this contract includes minor repairs to the interior coating on the inside of the tank, pressure washing the exterior of the tank, removing the old logo, repainting the exterior surface, and then placing the new City logo on the tank. On January 24th, the utility staff and John Konzen/HOT Inspection Services opened eight construction bids with the lowest bid of $97,000 from Champion Coatings. The City utility staff recommends awarding this contract to Champion Coatings. The bids ranged from $97,000 to $262,000. Champion Coatings from Savage, MN, submitted the low bid, in the amount of $97,000. I have called references and Champion Coatings has completed similar projects in the past for municipalities in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and appears to be qualified to perform the work. Considering the contractor's experience and bid price, it is recommended that the City of Round Rock award the project to Champion Coatings in the amount of $97,000 for the referenced project.
