A Georgia boy who migrated to Texas in 1826 and eventually became a member of the Texas Legislature. A childhood disease caused Willie's right leg to shrivel and become useless. Eventually, Willie took to tying it up behind him and wearing a wooden leg --hence the name "Three Legged Willie." His fame as a do-gooder so impressed the young Texas Government that they decided to name a county after him. Williamson County lies in the heart of the Hill Country, just north of Austin.
