AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 9, SECTION 9.503, CODE OF ORDINANCES (1995 EDITION), CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, ELIMINATING A PORTION OF RED BUD LANE IN THE VICINITY OF FOREST CREEK DRIVE AS A SCHOOL SPEED ZONE; PROVIDING FOR A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES OR RESOLUTIONS. WHEREAS, on August 14, 2003, the City Council of the City of Round Rock, Texas, adopted Ordinance No. G -03-08-14-E1 which designated a reduced speed zone on Red Bud Lane in the vicinity of Forest Creek Drive to facilitate the safe crossing of children going to or from a public or private school, and WHEREAS, a realignment of school boundaries east and west of Red Bud Lane in the vicinity of Forest Creek Drive has eliminated the need for a reduced speed zone in this area, Now Therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS: I. That Chapter 9, Section 9.503, of the Code of Ordinances (1995 Edition), City of Round Rock, Texas, is hereby amended to repeal the 30 mph school speed zone for a portion of Red Bud Lane from 500' south of Forest Creek Drive to 500' north of Forest Creek Drive. The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof. C. The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this Ordinance was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the public as required by law at all times during which this Ordinance and the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code, as f4'amennded. Martin, P.E., Director of Transportation Services Justification: Because of the realignment of school boundaries east and west of Red Bud Lane, in the vicinity of Forest Creek Drive, the need for the school zone on Red Bud Lane is no longer required. Funding: Cost: $0 Source of funds: N/A Outside Resources: Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) Background Information: Based on citizen complaints concerning the viability of the school zone on Red Bud Lane, 500' north and 500' south of Forest Creek Drive, RRISD was contacted concerning the continuing need for the school zone. The school district indicated that, because of changing boundary lines for the schools in this area, there is no generated pedestrian traffic crossing Red Bud Lane. Public Comment: N/A
